TheX-Menare now gradually make their way into the MCU, with fans now awaiting the news of who will be cast as this iconic group of characters. Well,WickedstarCynthia Erivohas now thrown her hat into the ring, with the Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award winner pitching herself for the role of Ororo Munroe, AKA Storm.
Speaking to theNational Board of Review, Erivo,who has received stellar reviewsfor her role in the box office hitWickedas Elphaba Thropp, AKA the Wicked Witch of the West, was asked which character she would really love to play next. With little hesitation, Erivo name-dropped Storm, with the actress believing she could bring a lot to the role and the “inner turmoil” that the character suffers. Based on her performance inWicked, a role she will reprise for the sequelWicked: For Good, it’s hard to disagree.
“I really want to play Storm. I know it sounds frivolous but I don’t think we’ve uncovered how grand she is and all of the inner turmoil that she has. So I think there’s a world in which we could do something like that.”

Cynthia Erivo has picked the perfect time to pitch Storm, with the actress, who is well-known in theatrical circles but has now seen her Hollywood star rise rapidly thanks toWicked, putting herself forward at a crucial period for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The X-Men have now begun to enter the MCU, with the likes of Wolverine, Beast, and more having made live-action appearances, whileX-Men ‘97andWhat If…?add various mutants in animated form. The latter has noweven brought Storm herselfinto the interconnected franchise.

One of the most powerful mutants in the world, and most senior members of The X-Men, Storm is able to control the weather. A power she often uses to enable her to fly and throw lightning bolts. Previouslyplayed by Halle Berry in Fox’sX-Menseries, it’s not too difficult to imagine Cynthia Erivo with long, white hair and white eyes creating hurricanes and offering advice to younger mutants. Speaking during a live virtual appearance at the Disney APAC Content Showcase back in November, Feige revealed that the multiversal madness ofAvengers: Secret Warswill open the floodgates.
“I think you will see that continues in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.”
