The Walking DeadstarLauren Cohanhopes to reunite with her former co-stars in an epic crossover. DespiteThe Walking Deadending in 2022, the franchise has continued on through various spin-offs that have seen the multiple characters spread across the globe. Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) leads his own series set in France and is joined by Carol (Melissa McBride), while Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) starred in the limited seriesThe Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, which was set in Pennsylvania. InThe Walking Dead: Dead City, a spin-off series set in Manhattan, Lauren Cohan andJeffrey Dean Morganreprise their roles as Maggie Green and Negan.

With the various characters far removed from each other, and the original southern-set original series, Cohan still hopes to one day reunite with her fellow co-stars. Speaking with Collider, Cohan does one day hope thatThe Walking Deadspin-offs can cross over and act as a mini-reunion for the original series. Something fans have long waited for. Cohan suggests this crossover could be the potential final story for the franchise, bringing the franchise full circle:

Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan state intensely at each other on The Walking Dead: Dead City

‘The Walking Dead’ universe will continue to expand, but it looks like one story is now over.

“We’ve talked about taking these characters to somewhere where they we eventually do all get back together again and there’s some intersection of the super group. I think it would blow people’s minds. It would blow our minds. It would be the ultimate reunion and the ultimate finish.”

It has been15 years sinceThe Walking Deaddebuted on AMCon Halloween night of 2010. The original series ran for 11 seasons and was at one point one of the biggest series on television. Despite the fact that reviews and viewership have fallen, the series has remained a consistent presence on AMC with its various spin-off projects. However, the franchise is at a crossroads. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixonis confirmedto return for Season 3 and will air on Sept. 7, 2025. However,The Walking Dead: Dead Cityis currently awaiting a Season 3 renewal, and it just concluded its Season 2 finale on Aug 25, 2025.

With the series' future up in the air at the moment, Cohan told Collider about her hopes for what will come next for a potential Season 3. The big question iswhat will come between Maggie and Negan, two characters who have been at odds since he debuted onThe Walking Deadand killed Maggie’s husband, Glenn (Steven Yeun). Cohan said:

“I don’t want to call it a truce, but they have basically beaten each other into submission, so I’d like to see some sort of agreement where, if it’s not to the death, then there is something livable here. That then allows for the show, because they’ve made this decision and they’ve gone to the absolute limit of what you’re able to do in this dynamic, to just shatter open, and everything that we’ve expected and everything that these characters can expect of themselves or of others can be turned on its head. That is what I would like to see. That’s what I hope to do next.”

As for Season 3, Cohan seems confident thather time with Maggie isn’t done. She offers a few brief teases of what fans can expect if AMC officially moves forward withDead CitySeason 3, saying:

“In terms of how long we spend on our story in Dead City, even things we talk about that could happen in another season, it’s such a new take and a new direction that as long as those things get to keep happening then the story is not done. There’s a big light coming for Maggie, that we have in this long-term arc that’s planned for her. So, I definitely want to stay until the light comes.”

Whatever the future holds forThe Walking Dead, it can’t be said that the franchise has crafted one of the largest andmost impressive shared universes, filled with beloved characters that have supported many different spin-offs that have expanded the story’s scope. The Walking Dead: Dead Citywas the first spin-off afterThe Walking Deadconcluded, and hopefully for its fans, it won’t be ending anytime soon.
