In October of 2020,it was confirmedthat Jon Stewart (The Daily Show) was planning on making a return to TV. Lucky for Apple, Stewart had decided to do that with the help ofApple TV+. And now we know when the show will premiere on the streaming service.
Today, Applehas announcedthat the highly anticipated return of Stewart will be under the mantle of a new show calledThe Problem With Jon Stewart. This is the first project between Stewart and Apple, which is part of a multi-year deal between the writer/producer/director and the company. Stewart leftThe Daily Showin 2015 and hasn’t had a hosting gig on TV since. As such, his return to a current affairs series has been on a lot of people’s radars for quite some time.
Here’s how Apple describes the upcoming series, which will apparently include a companion podcast:
‘The Problem with Jon Stewart’ is a multiple season, one-hour, single-issue series which will explore topics that are currently part of the national conversation and his advocacy work. Each season of the series will be further explored in a companion podcast to continue the discussion.
Today’s announcement also confirms the aforementioned first-look deal with Stewart and his production company, Busboy Productions.
There’s no specific premiere date listed in today’s announcement, other than sometime in the fall of this year. But, with the release date not too far off, we should know more soon enough.
In related news, back in Februarythe show nailed down its creative teamahead of today’s news. Brinda Adhikari will be executive producer and the series showrunner. Chelsea Devantez will the show’s lead writer. And finally, Lorrie Baranek has been tapped to be the executive in charge of production.
