Warhammer 40k:Space Marine 2is coming out on 18 August 2025 for the Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. Fans will see the beloved Captain Titus return for another galactic adventure. The first game, originally released on the Xbox 360, was a critical success and won fans over with its gameplay and multiplayer features.

And after 12 years, Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment have teamed up to bring fans the sequel. The upcoming game uses the latest advancements in game development technology to bring the epic battles of theWarhammer 40k universe to life once more.
The Modern Tech That Went Into MakingSpace Marine 2
In an interview withTrueAchievements, Oliver Hollis-Leick, the creative director of Space Marine 2 said that the originalWarhammer 40k: Space Marinewas held back by the technological limitations of its time.
“Not happening. Sorry bro”: Helldivers 2 Not Even Considering One Feature That Will be the Ultimate Selling Point for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2
Hollis-Leick explained that Relic Entertainment did their best with what the technology of the time could do. But the first game couldn’t fully capture the epic scale of theWarhammer 40kuniverse due to these limitations.
The first game was limited by the technology of the time. The Warhammer 40k universe presents warfare on an epic scale and, despite Relic doing a fantastic job, it simply wasn’t possible in 2011 to achieve the sheer scale of conflict that is presented in the official 40k fiction.

Speaking about the upcomingSpace Marine 2, Hollis-Leick spoke about the role of the Swarm Engine in making the sequel more modern. With its efficient memory management and its ability to simulate hive-like behavior for the game’s enemies, the Swarm Engine allows for much more in terms of showing the epicness of theWarhammer 40kbattles.
Our Swarm Engine is not just an efficient use of memory, allowing us to get hundreds of enemies on screen, it is a behavioral simulator that mimics hive-like behavior, causing enemies to move like a school of piranha fish.

In the new game, players will face the Tyranids, a hive-organism enemy perfectly suited to the Swarm Engine’s capabilities.Space Marine 2will not only feature an increase in enemy count but also introduce new gameplay mechanics while staying true to its roots.
Space Marine 2‘s Other Non-Technological Upgrades
Outside of the upgrades in technology,Space Marine 2stays true to the core mechanics that made its predecessor a hit. The melee and ranged combat systems have been refined to offer smoother gameplay. The game also includes new combat features like the quick shot counter, parry, and enemy interception to make it feel more engaging. This isone of the many featuresthat have gotten fans excited
“I think of it like Gears of War”: Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Won’t Just Let You Play as the Legendary Captain Titus, It’ll Do Much More
The story ofSpace Marine 2picks up almost a century after the events of the first game, with Captain Titus returning to a galaxy in turmoil. The stage has been set for the captain’s latest adventure with the destruction of the fortress world Cadia and the rise of the Primaris Marines, a new breed of super-soldiers.
The character of Titus has been through a lot since we last saw him. He has been hardened and made more coarse in many ways. Clive’s portrayal of Rollo in Vikings revealed that he could play both the brutal warrior and the man behind that. We needed that kind of sensitivity to be able to tell the story of Titus.

Hollis-Leick talked about the change that Titus has gone through in all this time. The character, who is now voiced by Clive Standen, returns to an unfamiliar and changed world. He must rediscover the world while dealing with his own transformation into a Primaris Marine, reflecting the broader upheavals within the Imperium of Man.
Saber Interactive’s approach toSpace Marine 2also shows how dedicated they are toWarhammer 40k lore. Aside from the new gameplay and graphical features,Space Marine 2will feature various new factions and units, including the Adeptus Mechanicus and the forces of Tzeentch.

While not all new models from the tabletop game will be present due to development constraints, the game aims to incorporate as much of the currentWarhammer 40k universe as possible.
