The Boondock Saintsare back, with a new movie in the action thriller franchise now in the works. BothNorman Reedusand Sean Patrick Flanery are all set to return as the gun-wielding brothers Murphy and Connor MacManus, with Thunder Road, the producer behind theJohn Wickmovies joining forces with rights holder Dragonfly Films to create this “expansion” of the series, which centers on two vigilante brothers who wage a war on crime in their hometown of Boston.
According to a report byDeadline, director Troy Duffy, who helmed both the 1999 originalThe Boondock Saintsand the 2009 sequelThe Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, will not return for this third movie and the search for a new filmmaker is now underway.
Some plot details forThe Boondock Saints 3have also been revealed, with the sequel centering on “the indoctrination of new ‘Saints.’”

Producer Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Films is looking forward to bringing The Boondocks Saints back, both for current fans a new generation.
“When we were given the opportunity to help bring the MacManus brothers back to the screen, we jumped at the chance. The unique possibility of building on the iconic mythology and characters for all the long-time fans of the series, as well as opening it up to a whole new generation, is one that we couldn’t be more excited about.”
Todd Myers of Dragonfly Films, meanwhile, says that bringingThe Boondock Saints 3to screens is a long held dream.
“From the moment I saw the first film, it has been my dream to be able to add to the amazing story of the Boondock Saints. I’ve been in discussions with Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus for over ten years to bring this dream to a reality.”

Reedus, who has seen his star rise thanks to his roleas Daryl inThe Walking Deadfranchise, cannot wait to show audiences what they have in store for the return ofThe Boondock Saints.
