The first Star Wars game for PSVR 2 has been confirmed today during Sony’s latest State of Play live stream.

The first trailer shown during the State of Play was the announcement of Star Wars: Tales From The Galaxy’s Edge - Enhanced Edition for PSVR 2, along with a release window of 2023. Naturally, there’s no actual release date or even a specific quarter, which is fair considering that Sony hasn’t announced either for the PSVR 2 yet.

The game puts players in the floating VR gloves of an unknown droid repair technician who has no business running around the galaxy doing heroic deeds. But that’s exactly what happens, and along the way, this seemingly random, nameless hero crosses paths with some of the franchise’s best-known characters, such as C3-PO, R2-D2, and even Master Yoda, with Frank Oz reprising his most memorable role to-date to give the game that extra slap of authenticity.

Originally released on the Quest and Quest 2, Star Wars: Tales From The Galaxy’s Edge was well received by critics and players alike, though it was noted that the game was relatively short. However, the Last Call expansion that was released the following year effectively doubled the playtime and presented players with new stories and gameplay opportunities.

The PSVR 2 version has been rebuilt from the ground up to take advantage of the far superior hardware powering the PSVR 2 headset. As such, players can expect far more impressive visuals and higher resolutions offering greater clarity than is possible on the current iterations of the Quest headsets. Another key difference in this re-release is the inclusion of eye-tracking, 3D audio, and haptic feedback via the new PSVR 2 controllers, meaning you’ll feel the kick of a blaster and the swing of a lightsaber.

It was said on the PlayStation Blog that Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge - Enhanced Edition will be “released as the complete experience,” possibly indicating that the Last Call DLC expansion will be included as part of the release. We should know more soon enough as the update ended with the assurance that more details will follow “soon.”
