By the end of this month, three newStar Warsmovies will have officially been completed since Disney bought LucasFilm way back in 2012. That’s not a bad track record. We still have a few more months to go beforeRogue One: A Star Wars Storyis in theaters this Christmas. AndStar Wars: Episode VIIIwon’t make its big debut for another year and a half. But according to starMark Hamill, the next chapter in the Skywalker family saga is on the verge of calling it a day.
Way back in April, directorRian Johnsonannounced that production was halfway through while sharing a couple of black and white photos from the set. Today, Luke Skywalker himself,Mark Hamill, usedTwitterto officially announce the wrap date. He had this to say.

“It wraps on Friday July 22nd 2016 #LooseLipsSinkStarships #W8ForVIII #DontBeAHomer #PatienceMyPadawans #Rogue1Sooner”
Before June came to a close earlier this week,Mark Hamillactually found himself inadvertently causing controversy when he tweeted that he’d be out of work followingStar Wars 8. Many took this to believe that Luke dies at some point duringEpisode VIII. The actor was quick to correct this, saying that he only meant he’d be done with his job, not that he would or wouldn’t be coming back to the Star Wars universe in the future. He shared this cover-up with fans about his unintentional slip.

“You’re right- I meant: ‘I’m out of work (FOR THE TIME BEING)’ Remember-I kept #DadVader a secret even from #Carrison!”
Star Wars 8will begin directly whereStar Wars: The Force Awakensleft off, with Rey (Daisy Ridley) meeting Luke Skywalker on the remote planet of Ahch-To, where he has been hiding in exile at an ancient Jedi temple. There have been rumors that Rey begins her Jedi training under Luke Skywalker’s tutelage inStar Wars 8, with other reports claiming that Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) has captured both Finn (John Boyega) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), in an effort to lure Rey out of hiding for another lightsaber duel.
All we know for sure is thatRian Johnsonis directing from his own script, withDomhnall Gleeson(General Hux),Gwendoline Christie(Captain Phasma),Carrie Fisher(Leia Organa) andLupita Nyong’o(NEv2olH0FIHGyD||Maz Kanata) also reprising their roles fromStar Wars: The Force Awakens. We know even less aboutStar Wars: Episode IX, except thatColin Trevorrow(Jurassic World) is set to direct. Take a look atMark Hamill’s tweet where he confirms the wrap date.
