Everything Everywhere All at Oncestar Michelle Yeoh won Best Actress at the Golden Globes on Tuesday. She is the recipient of the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her performance in the aforementioned film. The star gave a speech and reminisced about her journey in the industry.

Ana de Armas presented Yeoh with her trophy, and the winning actress said, “I’m just gonna stand here and take this all in. Michelle Yeoh Accepts Golden Globes Award For Best Actress
Yeoh took her time on the stage at Beverly Hilton and recalled when she was only starting out (viaDeadline):
“It’s been an amazing journey and incredible fight to be here today, but I think it’s been worth it. I remember when I first came to Hollywood, it was a dream come true until I got here. Because look at this face, I came here and was told, ‘You’re a minority.’ And I’m like, ‘No, that’s not possible.’”

Yeoh continues to inspire the Asian-American community in Hollywood, and she has been vocal about the roles given to Asian actors, especially the older ones. She continued:
“As the days, the years, and the numbers get bigger, it seems like opportunities start to get smaller as well.”

The actress claimed thatEverything Everywhere All at Onceis the best gift she has ever received, and as she continues her speech, the background music started playing to signal that she needs to wrap up. Yeoh lost her cool and said:

“Shut up, please. I can beat you up, OK? And that’s serious.”
She continued her speech and before wrapping up, gave a shout-out to herEverything Everywhere All at Onceco-stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Stephanie Hsu, and Ke Huy Quan.
“I was given this gift of playing this woman who resonated so deeply with me and with so many people because, at the end of the day, in whatever universe she was at, she was fighting for love, for her family.”
Yeoh also thanked directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert for writing about an ordinary, aging, immigrant woman.

Golden Globes Return After Last Year’s Controversy
The Golden Globes returned this year after it was boycotted in 2022 due to HFPA’s questionable practices and the lack of diversity in the organizers. Host Jerrod Carmichael joked in his monologue (viaVariety):
“I’ll tell you why I’m here. I’m here ’cause I’m Black. I won’t say they were a racist organization, but they didn’t have a single Black member until George Floyd died, so do with that information what you will.”
