Seat has unveiled its firstall-electric vehicle, naming the concept after a region of Barcelona, where Seat is based.
The new electric model exhibits the hallmarks of a concept with some slick lines, but doesn’t look too far from the final design we might expect. It’s a hatch, compact with five-doors, with a hint ofTeslathanks to that closed off nose at the front.
Unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show, the car is due to go into production in 2020 at VW’s Zwickau plant, one of the production facilities that the VW Group are signing over to electric vehicles as it scales up production.
The Sear El-Born sits on the VW MEB platform, a bespoke and flexible platform that’s going to be used across some15 million vehiclesaccording to VW.
To the specifics themselves, the El-Born will have a 62kWh battery and a power output of 150W (206PS), with a reported 0-62mph time of 7.4 seconds. The range is being given at 420km (260 miles), which for a compact urban run around sounds pretty compelling.
Naturally there will be rapid changing at 100kW, which Seat say will see the battery up to 80 per cent in 47 minutes.
There are additional technologies on board, includinglevel 2 autonomy, like automatic parking and partial control over speed and steering.
Internally, the Seat El-Born doesn’t look anything like a concept, with a large central display and a digital driver display, it again looks like a production-ready model.
We’re expecting a lot of activity in EVs over the next 12 months and this is another VAG model to add to the list. There’s no word on pricing.
