A recently leaked video showing footage of what appears to be gameplay from a Harry Potter game was shared in a thread on Reddit earlier this week, spotted by Metro. Let’s take a look at what details we can take from the video and clues recently shared.

Rumour: Harry Potter RPG Footage Leaked?

So where exactly did this footage come from? In the thread, the Reddit user by the name of VapeThisBro explained they had secretly filmed some footage of the unannounced game when they were asked to watch the video at a mall and take a survey.

The video contains a game that shows RPG elements, further features including character creation, potion making, spells and a character running in third-person view can be seen. The scenes contain environments that look very similar to the Great Hall in Hogwarts and even the underground area that was seen in the Chamber of Secrets. Not to mention the musical score sounds quite close to the Harry Potter soundtrack.

A few spells can be seen in the top left of the screen throughout the video which include Expulso, Stupefy, Depulso, Levioso, Expelliarmus, Lumos, Alohomora and Reparo.

While the originally leaked video on Youtube has since been taken down for containing Warner Bro’s content, some upload links have since appeared in the thread.

To further support that this indeed is an official game rather than a fan inspired creation, a tweet from the BBC News reporter and well-known Potter fan Lizo Mzimba shared some details:

Am told this is from a yet to be announced RPG currently titled Harry Potter Magic Awakened, although other titles including Magic Forever are also in the mix. Other Potter games are also thought to be on the way@TomPhillipsEG@ComicBook#HarryPotterMagicAwakened#HarryPotterhttps://t.co/bgXliE0Hme

Since Warner Bro’s holds the rights to the film it would be safe to say they would be producing the game, however which developer is the next question. While initially thought that it would be under Batman Arkham developer Rocksteady, sources according to Eurogamer point elsewhere. The Swedish developer Avalanche Studios was bought by Warner Bros. Interactive and could be the studio that takes on the game.

Further clues add to this theory as Avalanche have long been working on a large project that had job postings in early 2017 that included requirements such as:

…gaming narrative and branching storytelling, particularly in the realm of RPGs.

Other postings during the same time period included “large-scale console game project"and “AAA” to describe the project.

While the mobile gameHogwarts Mysterieswas released not long ago and the announcement of mobile game Wizards Unite under Ninantic, it’s been a while since a console or PC game has been released. We’ll keep you posted with any developments that are on the horizon.
