Detroit: Become Human pulls us on anadventurous ridein a beautiful sci-fi world filled with realistic androids, addressing real-world problems like bigotry. The characters (and their wonderful actors) help flesh this story out much likeHeavy Raindid before. Although it remains one of my all-time favorite video games, I can’t deny some aspects are questionable.
Detroit: Become Human Review
We review the story, gameplay, and visuals of Detroit: Become Human.
Plot holes or inconsistencies are a given in any fictional story. It’s borderline impossible not to create a story without something being off. So, despite my feelings aboutDetroit: Become Human, I feel some plot holes and inconsistencies are worth addressing.

As I’ll discuss major plot points, twists, and endings, spoilers will follow.
5Canada Being an Android Haven
Where Androids Go to Die
During our time in Detroit: Become Human, we learned that androids are fleeing to Canada. If you’ve survived with them, Kara, Luther and Alice can cross the border. But why? Canada has nothing to do with androids. They’re not outlawed, they simply don’t have them. This begs the question of how they will survive.
There’s no store for maintenance or spare parts. No Thirium to replenish themselves with. Of course, Rosedoesstate there will be help, but this is putting a lot of faith that dozens, if not more, androids will survive off the grace of a few humans smuggling items across the border. The androids will no doubt manage for years on end without any maintenance, but the point remains why make a haven in a place where parts aren’t plentiful?

4Kara Being Unrecognizable
An Android Who Slips Through the System
Unique androids are rare in Detroit: Become Human. Honestly, Markus is the only one seeing as he’s a prototype RK200 model. We know there are more copies of Kara, and although it’s understandable that the average person wouldn’t recognize her, it doesn’t explain the cameras. When Kara reaches the border, they rely only on scans, but not cameras.
10 Video Games With The Most Alternate Endings
There’s no end to endings.
In such an advanced society, it’s confusing how they don’t have solid facial recognition technology. If so, simply arriving at the border should have set off alarms for Kara. She’s an android who harmed a human and fled the police. She should be a wanted criminal, and cameras should certainly recognize her despite her changing her hair and clothes. Not a plot hole, of course, but simply something I always had second thoughts about.
3Connor Always Knows About Jericho
In Which Some Choices Don’t Matter
Connor’s a lovely character who can change drastically depending on your choices, but all roads lead to Jericho. And in Connor’s case, they shouldn’t. There’s a way you’re able to ensure thatConnor never hears about Jericho. From dying in thefirst interrogationto killing both androids at Eden Club, there’s a way to prevent him from ever hearing about it. And yet he still knows what it is when talking to Kamski.
Of course, we could just fill in the blanks and assume he found out from a deviant at some point. Everythingdoesn’tneed to be spelled out. But for such a major plot point, it simply would have been nice to see the progress instead of assuming it just happened. Or maybe we could have even seen just how good a detective Hank could be by him figuring it out on his own and informing Connor.

The funny thing about this minor plot hole is that it’s more of a development oversight. Concept art of Rupert’s apartment shows that Jericho was originally written on the walls and Connor should have learned about it much earlier in the game. Even though it was taken out, it seems like the idea of it was left behind.
2Underutilizing Alice’s Temperature Setting
That Girl is Always Cold
The Alice “twist” is as subtle as a bullhorn. We’re always making sure this girl isn’t too cold, but we know she has temperature control as Rose clocked her having a fever. The only other android we see can do that is Markus, but it isn’t shown ifeveryandroid does it or if it’s specific to Markus the prototype and other child androids. But we do know that this plotline wasn’t utilized to its fullest potential at the border scan to see if Alice would truly pass as human with the right temperature.
Would her whole body temp change or just her forehead? We don’t know as all we’re told is that she can mimic a human child. Alice can be scanned in the non-peaceful route and meet a horrid end, but how different would that be if she passed the scanner while the others didn’t? All that we got instead was a comment from the guard of how she was shivering, so it’s something Detroit: Become Human could have leaned into more.

1Using the Name of Hank’s Son
Just How Well Does Connor Know His Partner
When you near the end of Detroit: Become Human, as Connor there’s a chance for you to embrace your deviance and work on freeing other androids. Things get heated when another Connor shows up, and eventually, Hank must decide which one is the real one. Here’s where the problem lies: one of the “gotcha” questions is Hank asking Connor to tell him the name of his son, but what if you never had that discussion?
The only way you’re able to start the small side plot where you can discuss Hank’s son is if you find a picture during “Russian Roulette,” the 18th chapter in the game. You never bring up Hank’s son if you don’t find that picture. So, when you get to the pivotal choice moment, you’ll see a list of names and no other indications. The plot hole here is simple: why would Hank use that as a question in a playthrough where younever discussed his son with him? There’s no reason the real Connor would know this information, and Hank knows that, so there should have been another question here that players would seeregardless of choice.

Larian Studios writes incredible stories and characters — it’s undeniable. But these moments in BG3 left fans wondering…is there something missing?
