2023 already started out great, with somefree stuff coming out. Let’s take a peek at what the rest of the year has in store for us. The highly rumored newSci-Fi RPGmight not be here, however. Here are our top picks from their choices in no particular order.

PlayStation - Final Fantasy XVI 01

Final Fantasy XVI, PlayStation’s “Exclusive” RPG

A game coming in 2023 that definitely needs no introduction is Final Fantasy XVI. After almost 7 years since a new mainline entry into the FF series, fans no longer have to wait too long.

Final Fantasy XVI will be a political thriller, filled with revenge, actions, and tons of intrigue. The 16th game in the series will continue with the active, real-time combat but will also shy away from Final Fantasy XV’s open world. Instead, the team at Square Enix will focus on a smaller, area-based exploration experience.

PlayStation - Final Fantasy XVI 02

Speaking ofcombat, this title seems to be giving a huge emphasis on the series' summons, this time being called Eikons. These are beings of great elemental fury and seem to be able to decimate entire armies by themselves. They also seemintegral to the narrative, as each of the warring nations has at least oneEikonat their disposal.

XVI is going to be (allegedly) exclusive on PlayStation (for 6 months), though there’s likely to be a PC release sometime down the line.

PlayStation - Wild Hears 01

Wild Hearts Enters the Ring

The Monster Hunter series of games have been largely left unopposed in the gigantic Godzilla-Esque hunting genre. WhileDauntlessmay have had the potential, it is a mere blip in the radar for most folks. While Koei Tecmo’sWild Heartsmight not dethrone the reigning champion, it will definitely give MH a run for its money.

Wild Hearts is an upcoming game in the same vein as Monster Hunter. However, its new gimmick is that it introduces Fortnite-styled real-time building of various gadgets and buildings calledKarakurito give you an edge in combat. Monster too tall for you? Build a springboard to launch you into the air. Beast being a pain in the butt? Trap them with a Chain Trap projectile! Oh, and you can hit giant beasts with an umbrella. How cool is that?

PlayStation - Wild Hears 02

The possibilities are endless and the building system should prove a lot of fun. Aside from the PlayStation, Wild Hearts will appear on the PC and Xbox consoles onFebruary 17th.

Hogwarts Legacy, Expecto PlayStation!

Right inside PlayStation’sRoom of Requirementis the upcomingHogwarts Legacy. The game is an open-world retelling of the Potterverse and should be quite a magical foray as an RPG.

Players can build up afully custom witch or wizardand attend various classes, cast spells, and even explore some famous locations. You will get to interact with tons of characters, both new and old. In fact,Simon Pegghas been penned to be the voice actor as the current headmaster, Phineas Nigellus Black.

PlayStation - Hogwarts Legacy 01

Aside from partaking in magical classes, Hogwarts Legacy will allow you to murder people with Avada Kedavra in the Forbidden Forest. Hogwarts Legacy will be getting somePlayStation-exclusive DLC. It is also quite popular on Steam, being able to break into theTop 10 Salesback on the platform.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage, a Back to Basics

Next is Ubisoft’s next entry into the long-running Assassin’s Creed franchise: Mirage. This title will be a “return to form” in the sense that they will be scaling back the game dramatically to provide a more focused experience.

Instead of a bustling continent to explore with multiple islands and settlements,Assassin’s Creed Miragewill only focus on the city of Baghdad and its immediate surroundings. Ideally, this will let Ubisoft focus on a smaller and more dense area that is filling to the brim with content.

Baghdad will feature Basim, a humble orphan as he trains under a master assassin, Roshan (voiced by Shohreh Aghdashloo fromMass EffectandThe Expanse).

Like other games in the franchise, Mirage will not be a PlayStation exclusive. There is also no word just yet on when exactly in 2023 the title will be unearthed from the desert sands.
