Monster Hunter Wilds Great Sword Build (High Rank)- In this Monster Hunter Wilds Guide, I’ll be showing you a build for theGreat Swordwhich you can use once you have reached the end of the story and the credits have rolled. At this point in the game, you will have unlocked the High Rank Environments and the game will start to open up even more.

Monster Hunter Wilds Great Sword Build (High Rank)

This Monster Hunter Wilds Great Sword Build is focused towards boosting theGreat Swordabilities to deal even more damage by speeding up charging times. Although theGreat Swordgot the great additions of Offset Strikes and Perfect Guards, this build will rely less on perfectly timing those and focus more on the raw damage potential of theGreat Sword. Even though they are not the main focus of this build, we will still be complementing those ability as much as we can as they are an integral part of the Great Sword’s moveset.

Monster Hunter Wilds Great Sword Build - Weapons

Dosha Grimslayer I

For this build, the Great Sword I will be using is theDosha Grimslayer Ifrom the G. Doshaguma Tree. The Dosha Grimslayer I is a Rarity 4 Great Sword that can be forged before you reached the end of the story and is relatively easy to put together.

The reason why I’m using this Great Sword is because of the weapon skillFocus.Focuswill decrease your charge level by a certain percentage at each level and from this weapon you can get a reduction of 5% for the charge time from level 1. Although the Dosha Grimslayer has -20% affinity, it is made up for that fact by an increase in raw damage value. Additionally, this weapon has the added bonus of having two level one decoration slots that can be used to increase its attack even furthur.

Monster Hunter Wilds Great Sword Build - Dosha Fellslayer II

Quematrice Espada III

Other solid choices for the Great Sword at this point would also be theQuematrice Espada III, from the Quematric tree, which is a rarity 5 sword, which you can quickly put together once you’ve reached the High Rank environments and the Dosha Fellslayer II, from the Doshaguma tree.

The Quematric Espada III will give you Fire Elemental Damage with your strikes, which only a few monsters from the Oilwell Basin area are resistant to. Its weapon skill can also be very powerful because it has thePunishing Drawweapon skill at level 2.

Monster Hunter Wilds Great Sword Build - Latent Power

The Punishing Draw skill increases the damage you deal and adds stun damage to them when doing draw attacks, which are attacks made from a position where your weapon is sheathed. The Punishing Draw level 2 will add medium stun damage to your attacks and increase the attack value of your draw attacks by +5. This will make it easier to topple monsters to a certain extent.

Dosha Fellslayer II

Another solid option to use at this point is the Dosha Fellslayer II from the Doshaguma Tree.

TheDosha Fellslayerhas the same damage value as theDosha Grimslayer Ibut it only has an affinity reduction of -10% and it also has an added value of having a +20 defense boost. Like the Quematric Espada, the Dosha Fellslayer’s weapon skill is thePunishing Drawand you will have the skill at level 2 when you’re using the Dosha Fellslayer II.

Monster Hunter Wilds Great Sword Build - Stamina Surge

Monster Hunter Wilds Great Sword Build - Armor Sets

For the armor set for this Monster Hunter Wilds Great Sword Build, we will be using a combination of theDoshaguma Set,Guardian Doshaguma Setand theQuematric Set. From the Doshaguma Set, theDoshaguma Coil Alphaand theDoshaguma Braces Beta, then the Guardian Doshaguma Set, theG Doshaguma Mail Alphaand theG Doshaguma Greaves Alpha, then lastly theQuematrice Helm.

The Doshaguma Coil Alpha will give theLatent Powerlevel 2 skill. The Latent Power skill increases affinity by +20% and reduces stamina depletion by 30% at level 2 when it activates. Latent power activates after 300 seconds has passed after starting a hunt or when you have taken 180 damage from the monster.

Monster Hunter Wilds Great Sword Build (High Rank)

The Doshaguma Braces Beta gives theStamina Surgelevel 1, while also having Stun resistance level 1 and 2 decoration slots, 1 level 2 slot and 1 level 1 slot. Stamina Surge will increase your stamina recovery speed by 10% at level 1.

The G Doshaguma Mail Alpha will give us the skills ofConstitutionLv 2 and Iron Skin Lv 1. Constitution reduces the amount of stamina depletion when you evade or block and is really helpful when using the Great Sword.

Monster Hunter Wilds Great Sword Build (High Rank)

The G. Doshaguma Greaves Alpha will give you the skills ofConstitutionLv 2 andHeroicsLv 1.

The Combination ofG. Doshaguma MailandGreaves Alphawill get you theConstitutionskill at Lv4, which will reduce the amount of stamina drain when evading ,dodging and guarding by 40% making it really helpful when using the Great Sword. TheStun Resistancelv 1,Iron Skinlvl 1 andHeroicslvl 1 skill are not crucial to the build but they are helpful to have as secondary skills. The stun resistance skill reduces the duration of the time you are stunned by 30%, the Iron skin skill reduces the duration of the defense down debuff by 30% and Heroics will increase defense by 50 when health drops to 35%.

These four pieces will get the set bonusDoshaguma’s Might/Powerhouseat level II, which will give you a temporary +25 attack boost after a successful Power Clash or an Offset attack. This will greatly increase your damage output when you land your true charged strikes while the buff is active.

For the helm, we will use theQuematrice Helm Alpha. This helm will give us another level ofLatent Powerin addition toFlinch Freelvl1.

The main reason why I am using the alpha variants for the armor pieces is mainly because the skills and the skill level are fixed and you do not have to rely on the randomness of the drops to get good loot of decorations.

For the talisman for this Monster Hunter Wilds Great Sword Build, I recommend theFitness Charm, which will max out your constitution level to max, reducing the stamina depletion by 50%.

Decorations

The Decorations you have to choose from at this point in the game will be random, but it’s still worth talking about in this Monster Hunter Wilds Great Sword Build, with more options available depending on how much farming you have done. However, there are a few decorations I recommend looking out for and equipping if you do get them.

For the weapon decorations, the two level one slots offered by the Dosha Grimslayer I will allow you to slot into twoAttack Jewel 1s, boosting your damage output. Or if you want to use bothFocusandPunishing Drawskill, you may add twoGambit Jewel 1sto theGreat Swordto have one level ofFocusand two levels ofPunishing Draw. Or you can simply put in twoFocus Jewel 1’sto bring the Focus skill to level 3 which will decrease your Charge times by 15%

For the armor decorations, theDoshaguma Coil Alphahas one level one decoration slot,Doshaguma Braces Betahave one level two decoration slot and one level one decoration slot. TheG. Doshaguma Mail Alphaalso has one level two slot and one level one slot, theG. Doshaguma Greaveshas one level two slotm, and theQuematrice Helm Alphahas one level slot, making a total of 3 level 2 slots and 3 level 1 slots.

The ideal armor decoration setup will include3 Earplug JewelsIto get theEarplugskill to level 3, 2Refresh Jewel 2s to bring theStamina Surgeskill to max level, and aDestroyer Jewel 2which will give you thePartbreakerskill level 1, making it easier to break the large monster parts and increases the damage dealt on a monster’s wound when using the focus strike.

For the Mantle, if you have the 3Earplug Jewels, you may use theMending Mantle, which will help by restoring your health to full at a fast rate if you have not taken damage for a short period, while it’s active. This will alleviate you from the need to use potions during your hunts . But if you are not using the earplug skill, you can use theRocksteady Mantle, which will prevent all kinds of knock backs from attacks, roars, tremors and wind pressure while it is active. Since the Mantle will prevent you from getting knocked over by the monster’s attacks, just make sure to remember that the visual feedback when you are hit by an attack is lost, and it is very easy to lose track of your health bar during this time and faint during your hunts.

This build focuses on getting the most out of your charged attacks with faster charging times and stamina recovery and stamina reduction. If you are using this build, you cannot rely too heavily on your blocks and your Offset attacks, although theDoshaguma’s Mightset bonus is there to help you with your damage when you land these attacks, this build does not center mainly around the buff.

Another thing is that this build does not reinforce the guarding capabilities of theGreat Swordin any way, so while using this build, you should focus more offense rather than defense.

Progression

From this point, as you progress through the end game, the most versatile and also a solid upgrade for the Great Sword is theArtian Blade I. You will be able to craft theArtian Weaponafter hunting a certain tempered Monster. The Artian Weapons are rarity 6 levels that can be reinforced to increase their damage and their element and affinity can be affected by the parts you are using during the forging process.

The Artian Weapons are crafted from materials gained from hunting tempered variants of the monsters, which are incredibly strong. The materials needed to crafter the Artian Weapons vary from weapon to weapon and in order to craft the Artian Great Sword, you will need 2 Broken Blades and a Crushed Tube.

For the Armor set, you can keep using the combination of theDoshaguma Sets, but a great alternative is theAjarakaen Setfor itsPartbreakerskill. You can use either of these sets to farm for parts that you want for your strongest armor and weapon.

Final thoughts

TheGreat Swordis the tried and true traditional weapon of the Monster Hunter Franchise and still remains so in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its powerful attack and the added ability to counter attacks and perform perfect guards makes the Great Sword more versatile than ever.

In order to land the Offset attacks, you will need to be familiar with the monster’s attack patterns, which is quite easy to learn as the monsters’ attacks are well telegraphed in Monster Hunter Wilds. More often than not it is better to block rather than Offset the attack when the monster has already started its attack animation. Another thing to note is, even though you can Offset most attacks, when the monster is using the huge attacks, it is better to sheath your weapon and run or mount your Seikret real fast and get out of the way.

Even though this build focuses mainly on amplifying the Offensive side of the Great Sword, you may use theGuardian Jewel,Ironwall JewelorShield Jewelto amplify the guarding abilities of the Great Sword if you find yourself using the guards more often than being on the offensive most of the time.

For secondary weapons, the situations where you would need a secondary weapon to help you are few and far between. But if you are looking for something versatile to help you with your hunts, theHunting Hornis a solid option as the buffs it provides can help you a lot such as added elemental resistance or heals. But if you are looking for a weapon that will help you against a particularly fast monster, or a monster where you have trouble finding the opening to land your attacks, then the ranged weapons are a solid choice. In my opinion, theBowis the best ranged weapon for a secondary weapon for Great Sword as it does not as much preparations before your hunts.
