Ogerpon Cornerstone is useful in two roles: as a decent physical attacker and as a redirection support. While it’s a rarer sight, it still managed to make the Top 8 of the2025 Pokemon VGC World Championships. As part of Michael Kelsch’s team, it placed sixth overall, which is no mean feat. So it’s worth taking a look at the Ogerpon Cornerstone build that Michael used on his team and how you may use it in the VGC format.
What Is the Build of Michael Kelsch’s Ogerpon Cornerstone?
Ogerpon Cornerstone has a deceptively good typing in Grass/Rock, as the two types synergize well enough to remove most of their individual weaknesses. So, the only types that would hit Ogerpon Cornerstone for super-effective damage were Bug and Steel, both relatively rare types. Michael didn’t have much choice with the Item and Ability as Ogerpon has to hold the Cornerstone Mask and has the ability Sturdy as a result. Still, Sturdy provided an in-built Focus Sash, letting Ogerpon survive one hit from full HP.
Moves Used by Michael Kelsch’s Ogerpon Cornerstone
Michael Kelsch’s Ogerpon Cornerstone had its signature Ivy Cudgel. This move has a base power of 100 and becomes Rock-type once Ogerpon Terastallizes. As for Grass STAB, Michael went with Power Whip over Horn Leech, preferred power over healing and accuracy. The final two moveslots are dedicated to Follow Me for redirection and Spiky Shield for protection.
