As it heads intoproduction, we keep hearing from the cast and crew thatStar Wars: Episode VIIIis going to be quite a bit more physical thanStar Wars: The Force Awakens. And starJohn Boyegais in training to get toned for his return as Finn. Today on his personalTwitteraccount, the actor showed off his workout routine, and just how in shape he really is. Earlier this year, he had this to say about his role.

“My part in the next film will be much more physical so I might be in the gym a bit more.”

The Last Jedi

WhileThe Force Awakensstrongly hinted thatReywas the next in line to become aJedi, it sounds likeJohn Boyegaisn’t ready to give up his lightsaber just yet. The young actor has not only been working out, he has also been practicing his fencing skills, which hint that he might be getting alightsaberof his own in thenext sequel. Or he’ll be quite proficient in using that riot baton should he have to square off against Nines (aka TR-8R) again.

John Boyegaalso recently posted a photo of himself on hisInstagrampage, standing alongside his sister. He appears in his fencing uniform. He wears a hat that translates to ‘Samurai’, which is matched with Kendo shirt and gloves. Kendo is the sword-fighting style most commonly associated with the saga’s lightsaber duels. Could Finn become a Jedi? Anything’s possible.

Star Wars

No story details have been revealed for Star Wars: Episode VIII yet. When we last saw Finn, he had been struck down by Kylo Ren and was in critical condition. It’s speculated that the next sequel will pick right back up with Rey visiting Luke Skywalker. Perhaps, in a nod to Luke Skywalker’s recovery scenes at the beginning ofStar Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, will get to see Finn recuperating from his injuries. Maybe the bacta tank will even make a return. What we do know about the story is that it will not be a lighthearted affair. SaysJohn Boyegaabout the transforming tone of the movie.

“[We’re] just starting work on ‘Star Wars VIII,’ the next film, so I’m back to keeping secrets again. It’s great. Much darker, but we’re very excited.”
