Fire Emblem Engage is the newest entry in the beloved Fire Emblem RPG series. It will let players summon the power of old favorites.
Fire Emblem Engage Allows Players to Summon the Strength of Classic FE Legends
In yesterday’s Nintendo Direct 2022, one of the biggest announcements was definitely for the newest Fire Emblem game. Titled Fire Emblem Engage, the new tactical turn-based RPG developed by Intelligent Systems will be released early next year, on June 05, 2025. Interestingly, this puts it a full weekend before Square Enix’s first entry of next year,Forspoken.
So what’s new in this upcoming title? What makes it stand out? Let’s see!

Fire Emblem Engage General Info
The biggest feature that Fire Emblem Engage is arguably its introduction and use of Emblem Rings. About a thousand years before the game even begins, the world was at war with an evil Fell Dragon bent on destruction. Four Kingdoms and their mightiest heroes joined forces to entrap the evil force, preventing total annihilation.
However, these legends have passed, and time has forgotten the ancient evil that was defeated many years before. Humanity has moved on. The seals meant to keep the Fell Dragon in its cage have begun to unravel, triggering its awakening.

Our player character Alear (who fans have endearingly started calling Toothpaste-chan or Colgate-kun, depending on gender) is what is called a Divine Dragon. This title grants them the power to use Emblem Rings. These rings are powerful artifacts that contain the power of the original heroes of old.
It looks like players will be able to select the gender of Alear, whether male or female. Their unique design has some fans speculate that the pair may have more than just their Divine Dragon status being hidden. They may have even greater powers than just being able to make use of the Emblem Rings.

Legends of the Emblem
With the powerful Emblem Rings, the player and his party can summon the strength of these legendary heroes, borrowing their looks, powers, weapons, and other abilities. As depicted in the round Emblem at the start of the trailer, it looks like there are quite a few Fire Emblem classics that will be making their way into Fire Emblem Engage.
Among the 12 characters in the Emblem, three have confirmed names already based on trailer footage. First is Marth, the protagonist of the original Fire Emblem Game and its sequel, Mystery of the Emblem. We also get to summon Sigurd, the protagonist of Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. Last is Celica, a priestess and one of the two main characters of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.

Fans have already run wild with speculation on who the other heroes will be returning in Fire Emblem Engage. At the 11 o’clock position of the Emblem wheel, we can see Byleth, the main character ofThree Houses(and antagonist ofThree Hopes).
Engaging as Ever Fire Emblem Combat
As always, Fire Emblem Engage will adapt the game’s familiar turn-based combat system (except for spinoffs such asFire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes). At a glance, the game already looks highly reminiscent of the company’s previous mainline game, Three Houses.
This time though, it looks like there will be tons of customization outside of combat. It is the Rings Emblem System that allows this level of customization. Since you can easily swap between different heroes’ rings, it seems that swapping overall builds should be easy. Not only do you inherit the owner’s weapon, but you also get bonuses in terms of passive and active abilities as well as stat points.

There isn’t much to say at the moment with combat, as it looks pretty much like your standard Fire Emblem affair. It is fun to watch the old heroes mimicking the actions of our own characters though as if they were spiritually guiding us to victory.
Completing the Emblem
Fire Emblem Engage releases early next year, on July 02, 2025 with pre-orders now available. The standard digital edition will cost $59.99 and will come with just the base game. No DLC or Season Passes have been announced at the moment.
Nintendo also intends to sell a Physical “Divine” Collector’s Edition. However, they haven’t started accepting preorders for this, and as such, no price has been revealed. Fans who go for this edition will receive a steel book, art cards, an art book, and a poster for their troubles.
