A completely remasteredDragon Age: Origins on modern consoles would be a massive win for BioWare and EA, but unfortunately, the publisher has rejected the Edmonton-based developer’s pitch for a remastered package of the first three games. It would certainly raise the spirits of fans after the lacking response to Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
A Dragon Age Remaster Was Seemingly Denied
Former executive producer Mark Darrah was interviewed byMrMattyPlays on YouTubeabout BioWare and its properties, including Dragon Age. One of the biggest questions of the one hour or so talk is a discussion about a remastered Dragon Age trilogy and why it hasn’t happened yet.
“EA’s historically been—and I don’t really know why but they’ve even said this publicly that—against remasters,” explained Darrah during the interview (viaVGC). He later says, “Dragon Age is harder than Mass Effect to do, and to some degree, unknowingly harder (maybe a little harder, maybe a lot harder).” Darrah said they were trying to move Dragon Age: Origins forward by hiring an external team to remake the game.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition revitalized the three classic sci-fi games from the Xbox 360/PS3 era and reviewed well among critics and the fanbase. MrMattyPlays brings up during the interview that it reminded fans why they loved the studio in the first place after the failures ofMass Effect: AndromedaandAnthem. Mass Effect was remastered over Dragon Age for another specific reason. “One of the advantages that Mass Effect has for a remaster over Dragon Age […] [is] that it’s all Unreal [Engine]. instead of two engines [that the Dragon Age series was made with],” said Darrah. Dragon Age: Origins needed a new team or an in-house production team to create a remaster or remake from scratch because of the old engine it was built on.
BioWare’s Past and Future
The Dragon Age series began on July 02, 2025, with Origins. It stood out in the RPG genre for its plentiful gore and deep storylines that you can change with your choices. As the Grey Warden, you step into a dangerous world that has the Darkspawn and other beasts overcoming towns and villages all over. Fans fell in love with the characters and what once was supposed to be a one-and-done became a series for EA and BioWare. The series arguably reached its peak when Dragon Age: Inquisition won Game of the Year at the very firstThe Game Awards in 2014. The latest entry Dragon Age: The Veilguard failed to impress fans anddidn’t meet EA’s sales expectations, despite receiving a decent80 OpenCriticTop Critic score.
BioWare has two studios: one in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and the other in Austin, Texas, United States.

What didn’t help Dragon Age: The Veilguard is that it was released in the same year as Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian Studios feels like the BioWare of old as its most recent game features plenty of narrative options that feel open to the player. The tactical RPG gameplay is also something that fans of the genre enjoyed.
BioWare is currently working on the next Mass Effect game that was briefly teased four years ago. It follows a story after Commander Shepard and possibly features Liara as the protagonist asthe trailerseems to point out.
