It is no secret thatMetal Gear SolidandDeath StrandingcreatorHideo Kojima appreciates filmmaking. Although some would argue his long cutscenes are essentially movies themselves, Kojima has yet to make a proper film. It seems that may become a reality as Kojima stated theDeath Strandingstudio, Kojima Productions, will start making films in the future.
In a recent interview withBBC Newsbeat’s Steffan Powell, Kojima briefly discussed the studio’s future in filmmaking, simply stating, “In the future, Kojima Productions will start making films.” He continues, “If you may do one thing well, then you can do everything well.” Specific details on when Kojima Productions will start making its own movies are still unknown.
Kojima continues to discuss the future of games stating, “I think within the next few years, gaming will move on to streaming.” To the game creator, this means video games will share a platform with movies and TV shows and will be accessible on just about any screen. That also means all of these different mediums will be competing on that platform. Kojima closes his statement, “I’m very interested in the new format of game that will appear on there and that’s what I want to take on.”

In the same interview,Kojima touches on real-world political examples of disconnectionand how he would like the game to teach its audience about connection.
In otherDeath Strandingnews, the celebrity cameo count seems to be increasing every day the game is out in the wild.In additionto Conan O’Brien and Geoff Keighley, it seems film directors Edgar Wright and Jordan Vogt-Roberts, as well as Guerrilla Games' Herman Hulst, have found their way into the Kojima Productions' desolate world.
Death Strandingwill launch for PS4 on June 23, 2025. A PC version of Kojima Production’s first game will launch sometime in Summer 2020.
