A list of nine games that fans of Blue Prince need to try playing.
One of the most important mysteries to solve early on in the game is how to unlock the padlock on the Apple Orchard gate outside the estate, which will permanently reward the player with an extra 20 steps at the start of each day once completed.
Draft and Enter the Dark Room
The first thing you’ll need to do is draft theDark Room, which is a red-colored room with three doors. Once the room has been drafted, be sure to enter it, which causes the lights to go out (we’d recommend holding off on opening any doors until after the power is back on unless absolutely needed).
Flip the Fuse in the Circuit Room
You’ll need to turn the power in the Dark Room back on, which can be done by flipping the fuse for the room on the Circuit Breaker. Draft theUtility Closet room(warning: it is a Dead End room) anywhere on the map andflip the fuse titled “Dark Room,“which should be in the “off” position, to the “on” position.
Doing this will also negate the effect of the Dark Room, allowing you to see what rooms are available to draft when opening the other two doors. Turning the lights back on only works if you have already seen them go out first.
Obtain a Magnifying Glass
You’ll need to track down aMagnifying Glassitem before completing the next step. The Magnifying Glass allows you to closely inspect documents, occasionally revealing hidden or obscured clues in the process.

The Magnifying Glass can be foundrandomly spawnedin rooms next to documents, can be found inlocked chestsas a rare spawn, may be available for purchase at theCommissaryor can be traded for at theTrading Post. When in doubt, utilize the special order command on one of the estate’s computers and order a Magnifying Glass to be made available in the Commissary the next day.
Inspect the Apple Orchard Photo
With the Magnifying Glass in hand, head back to the now-lit Dark Room and find the fully-developed photos sitting on a table in the corner of the room. Inspect the photo of the Apple Orchard and place the Magnifying Glass over the carving in the large tree by the gate. A date will be revealed,11-27, which is the combination used on the gate’s padlock.
Enter the Combination on the Padlock
Head back past the campsite outside the house and up to the white gate to the Apple Orchard, and interact with the padlock to enter the combination. This will permanently open the Apple Orchard, which grants the player apermanent increase of 20 stepsto their starting step count each day. The gate will remain permanently open overnight, and we highly recommend checking out the shed in the back for clues to other puzzles.
