Raider is what might be considered one of the best tank characters inElden Ring Nightreign. His increased health pool, as well as the use of heavier weapons, makes him the ideal character to be the frontline tank for every party. Fighter’s Resolve
Taking damage boosts Retaliate potency, and cannot be knocked down while using it. Remain standing with a sliver of HP even after taking heavy damage.
Passive Ability
Assume attack stance and pummel vigorously. A defensive posture that reduces incoming damage. An enhanced skill which causes even larger enemies to recoil.
Character Skill
Totem Stela
Drive gravekeeper’s wedge into the earth to summon a giant tombstone. Tombstone radiates a protective aura, boosting the strength of nearby allies and blocking arrows. This tombstone can also be climbed.
Ultimate Art
Raider is a special character in the sense that he wants to take damage to boost the potency of his character skills. You’ll want to strategically take hits that won’t kill you, but take enough damage to boost this skill that can knock back enemies. This knockback is great because it gives your party a chance to squeeze in extra damage and help take down enemies quickly.
One thing to get the hang of is his Ultimate Art, which works somewhat differently than the rest of the characters. Like Guardian, his Ultimate Art will provide aid to the party, but it is reliant on playing around the tombstone he summons. This does give you invincibility frames upon activation, and the tombstone then pushes you above bosses and enemies. Totem Stela is a strong ability to use when in danger as well as buff your party, but it does take some getting used to in comparison to some of the other characters you’re able to play.
Weapon Priority
Raider is a big guy that needs some big weapons.
One of the things to keep in mind is the character’s preferred weapon when playing them. They can manage with other weapons, of course, but their specialty will be in those preferences with their movesets and kits. Raider is unlike some of the others in the cast with his weapons of choice. He excels with greataxes, great hammers, and colossal weapons. Weapons such as the Butchering Knife, Greathorn Hammer, Rotten Battleaxe, and Ghiza’s Wheel are just a few that are fantastic choices to get on runs. With the S-rank he has in strength, he wields all of these with ease. These are all fantastic in his hands, and there is a huge variety in weapon skills that come with every one of them.
Preferred Talismans and Relics
Prioritize finding talismans and relics that can complement Raider’s abilities.
Talisman options aren’t lacking when it comes to what works best for Raider. He does best with talismans that can help with damage negation, such as the Dragoncrest Shield Talisman. The Godfrey Icon will increase the attack power of charged skills and spells, making it a powerful choice if you get a good related skill in a weapon pickup. Alternatively, the Axe Talisman will increase charge attacks in general to accomplish a similar goal. If you are seeking HP and Stamina increases, you can’t go wrong with Erdtree’s Favor to give a slight boost to both at once.
For relics, you may want to look at ones that will increase poise when you use Raider’s Ultimate Art, Totem Stela. This will increase the number or how big of hits you can take before being staggered while attacking. Stats boosts to stamina regeneration are your best bet to regenerate your stamina after attacking, so that you can dodge as soon as you can. It is important to regenerate as much of your stamina as you can, since these heavier weapons Raider excel in using most of your stamina in just a few swings.
Raider is a character that excels at tanking damage for the party while imparting buffs and using the heaviest weapons you’re able to find. The combination of all his skills with these weapons makes him a force to be reckoned with. Protecting your party while keeping the enemy’s attention on you and applying as much pressure on them as you can is key to playing Raider to his fullest potential.
