One of the more interesting Barbarian subclasses inBaldur’s Gate 3is its Path of Giants subclass (which is a bit confusingly just listed as “Giant” when one is selecting their subclass). A Barbarian walking the Path of Giants gets a number of very cool abilities, including a significant buff to Throw attacks.

This guide will discuss the abilities of this subclass and then give advice on how to effectively build a Path of Giants Barbarian.

Subclass Features
At Barbarian Level 3, you will be able to select the Path of Giants subclass, immediately gaining a few benefits specific to the subclass (in addition to the standard benefits associated with being a Barbarian). You will gain additional benefits from the subclass at Barbarian Levels 5, 6, and 10. These benefits are as follows:

Importantly, this is definitely a gimmicky subclass. If you want to use it effectively, you will need to commit to throwing weapons and objects around.

Building a Strong Path of Giants Barbarian
The Path of Giants Barbarian is all about throwing weapons and objects. You will want to maximize your Strength when using this subclass, even putting aside that a high Strength allows you to throw heavier objects. This is because, while you may initially be able to benefit from throwing Finesse weapons using a high Dexterity, the highest damage potential weapons are all going to use your Strength score.
Initially, the subclass may be underwhelming, as thrown objects don’t deal much damage (even objects over 100 lbs only deal 2d4 Bludgeoning damage by default). For consistency, you will want to findweapons with the Thrown property. A good early purchase is the Returning Pike, available from Grat the Trader in Act I, as it deals a decent 1d10+1 damage, gets a small bonus to hit, and automatically returns to you when you throw it.

Things shift significantly at Barbarian Level 6, as Elemental Cleaver allows you to giveanyweapon the Thrown property and the ability to automatically return to you when you’re Enraged. With this new ability, you should find the best two-handed weapon available to you and start throwing to your heart’s content, with weapons enhanced with Elemental Cleaver dealing an additional 1d6 elemental damage on top of all the other bonuses your Thrown attacks receive.
Several options are available to further boost your damage output.The Tavern Brawler featcan and should be taken more or less as early as possible for its buff to throwing. There is also the Ring of Flinging, giving a buff of 1d4 damage to Throw attacks, available from Arron in Act I. Once you reach the Underdark, you’ll also want the Gloves of Uninhibited Kushigo, available to help save Baelen Bonecloak, which further boosts Throw damage by 1d4.

A completely committed Path of Giants Barbarian:
While the ability to create a decent Throw build wasalways in the game, the relatively recent addition of this Barbarian subclass in Patch 8 really allows a committed player to become a whirlwind of weapons and heavy objects.
