James Gunnis celebrating a big win following the release ofSuperman. The first feature film in the new DCU opened to $125 million, and positive word of mouth from critics and audiences suggests a long box office run. Superman is one part of what is referred to as the Trinity, the three lead characters of the DC Universe alongsideBatmanandWonder Woman. Now that Superman has made his big-screen DCU debut, everyone is wondering when Batman and Wonder Woman will join the rebooted cinematic universe.
Speaking with Urbana Play via ScreenTime, Gunn discussed the upcoming Batman and Wonder Woman films. They are high priorities for DC Studios, and both have scripts being worked on. However, Gunn won’t rush either project, and like all DCU entries, he wants the scripts to be perfect. This means fans shouldn’t expect any casting announcements until they are complete. He did say that as soon as the scripts are ready, they will be fast-tracked and begin looking for directors and actors. Gunn said:

“It’s not gonna be until the script is ready. Both scripts are being written now, and if they’re good we’ll go into production immediately”

‘Superman’ fan-favorite has teased his future in the DC Universe as Mister Terrific.
Gunn previously mentioned that he has hired writers for both the Batman filmBrave and the Boldand Wonder Woman, but has not confirmed who is writing them. Although there is no word on their solo films, the presence of both Batman and Wonder Woman in the DCU has already been felt. The iconic characters were briefly glimpsed in Max’sCreature Commandos, which also featured the Wonder Woman villain Circe and overt references to the Island of Themyscira.Clayface, the third film in the DCU, is based on one of Batman’s most overlooked villains, who also had a small role inCreature Commandos. However, the recent rumors surroundingClayface’s plot seem to downplay many Batman connections.

The Future of Batman and Wonder Woman in the DCU
Both Batman and Wonder Woman films will carry a lot of baggage with them.Brave in the Boldwill run concurrently with Matt Reeves’The Batmanand will need to find a way to stand out, avoiding the risk of creating two competing Dark Knights. Fans are already hoping to seeThe Batmanfolded into the DCU and haveRobert Pattinson’s Dark Knight and David Corenswet’s Man of Steelshare the screen. Meanwhile, Wonder Woman has had a recent successful live-action film, one of the few hit movies of the DCEU that remains relatively fresh in fans' minds. Though the disappointing sequel,Wonder Woman 1984, might make it easier for fans to let go of that incarnation of the character.
Gunn’s approach to ensuring the scripts are good before moving forward is practical and appears to avoid the major issue that the MCU has faced in recent years. However, it also leaves a bit of uncertainty around the slate, as so far, the only two DCU films confirmed areSupergirlandClayface, both set for 2026. In addition toBrave and the Boldand Wonder Woman, Gunn has also confirmed films based on Swamp Thing, The Authority, Sgt. Rock and Teen Titans. The AuthorityandSgt. Rockhave already hit a snag, with no word yet on whetherSwamp Thingdirector James Mangold will begin work on that film or his plannedStar Warsprequel first.

Gunn has teased his own secret project that is not quite aSupermansequel, leaving many curious and excited about where the DCU will go. The one thing for sure is that it might be a while before any news about who plays Batman or Wonder Woman comes out.
