Sony Pictures has been hugely successful over the years in bringing one of Marvel’s most celebrated superheroes Spider-Man onto the big screen through actors like Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Along with expanding the various narrative threads of Spider-Man and his arch-enemies, Sony has also been attempting to create aSinister Sixspin-off movie, since the mid-2000s.
The Sinister Six comprises of different supervillains in the various comics of the Spider-Man Universe, including Green Goblin, Morbius, Venom, Mysterio, Dr Octopus, Electro, and others. The seed for the film was first sown in 2014, after the release ofThe Amazing Spiderman 2, starring Andrew Garfield. While the project never took off, reports now coming in, indicate that this idea could become a reality.

Will Andrew Garfield Feature In A RumoredSinister SixFilm?
While the Sinister Six storyline in Marvel’s Spider-Man Universe is tailor-made for the big screen, a spin-off film based on the arch-rivals of the webbed superhero has not materialized till now, despite efforts being made. Instead, standalone films of certain main villains of the Sinister Six like Venom and Morbius, have been released. While none of these films have featured Spider-Man, it was speculated thatAndrew Garfield’sPeter Parker is set to become the sixth member of the group after being conned to join by Norman Osborne, as per the original narrative in the comic books.
Now, according to unconfirmed rumors, Sony looks to be resurrecting the plan to bring these characters together in aSinister Sixfilm, which will allegedly include Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker aka Spider-Man facing off against the likes of Venom, Morbius, and Kraven the Hunter, along with Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, and Jamie Foxx’s Electro. There are also speculations that The Vulture, Ezekiel Sims, and Rhino could feature in the line-up.
In the comics, the original Sinister Six assembled for the first time in 1964’sThe Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1. Led by Doctor Octopus, the team included The Vulture, Sandman, Electro, Mysterio, and Kraven the Hunter. While Doctor Octopus has generally remained its leader, the Sinister Six has been portrayed in various versions of the comic book with different villains at the helm. It now remains to be seen when and how Sony addresses the rumors of a film with a definite statement.

Ever since the possibility of a rumoredSinister Sixfilm is making the rounds again, fans have taken to social media to speculate on this information. While there has been no definite confirmation from Sony Pictures regarding the same, reports indicate that the spin-off could include the likes of Tom Hardy’s Venom,Willem Dafoe’sGreen Goblin, and Jamie Foxx’s Electro facing off against Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man.
While a few viewers were skeptical about Sony actually going through with the project considering the fact that the idea fizzled out as early as 2014, others expressed their interest in seeing Spider-Man take on these popular antagonists in a film. A few netizens were more forthright in their opinion that making this film wasn’t a great idea.

With not much being confirmed by Sony Pictures as yet, time will tell if this plan to make aSinister Sixfilm materializes, and if so, how successful it is.
